Correction: Based on a scorekeeping error, an earlier version of this story said Columbus Academy’s Sophie Spolter had reached 1,000 career points.

Sophie Spolter was on the verge of a scoring milestone after the Columbus Academy girls basketball team’s 79-56 win over Whitehall on Jan. 8.

Spolter, a senior guard, reached 999 career points by scoring 25 as the Vikings defeated the Rams to improve to 8-3 overall and 6-2 in the MSL-Ohio Division. She’s expecting to surpass the 1,000-point mark during a home game against Fisher Catholic on Jan. 11.

“I’m happy about this accomplishment and I’m grateful for all of my teammates I’ve played with for the past four years who have helped me reach this milestone,” Spolter said.

A scorekeeping error led to Spolter originally being credited with 27 points against Whitehall.

Also a standout goalie in soccer, Spolter was named first-team all-district and all-league and second-team all-state in the fall.
