Girls basketball: Graci Risley equals school record with nine 3-pointers in Henderson's win

MADISONVILLE, Ky. -- Graci Risley had hit nine 3-pointers through three quarters, but she was wanting one more.

Risley tied the school record for most 3-pointers in a game in Monday's 76-38 win at Madisonville.

Her record-tying 3-pointer came near the end of the third quarter even though she was fouled on the shot. The four-point play pushed the junior guard's point total to 30.

After having five 3-pointers in the first half, Risley said she was thinking about Krista Hatfield's school record of nine 3-pointers set in 2005 against Evansville North.

With four more 3-pointers in the third quarter, Risley now had a share of the record.

"When I got to nine, I thought maybe I could break it," she said.

When coach Jeff Haile began emptying his bench early in the fourth quarter, he left Risley on the court for a while but she was unable to connect on a couple of 3-point attempts before she left the game midway through the fourth quarter.

"We gave her a couple more shots at it," Haile said. "Maybe another night."

A 38% shooter from 3-point land, Risley made 9-of-17 attempts (53%) against the Lady Maroons (12-4).

"She does a good job of getting to the spot where she knows the ball's coming," Haile said. "She'll ask for the ball. You don't want them hogging the ball, but you want players who want to score."

Kaytlan Kemp added 12 points for Henderson County (9-4), which hit 12 3-pointers as a team.

Camryn LaGrange scored 20 of Madisonville's 38 points and also grabbed nine rebounds.

Henderson County will visit Daviess County Friday.
