TEMPERANCE – Bedford’s girls basketball team was shorthanded on the front line Tuesday night.

Maddie Heneger and Katie Morse were hurt. Nyah Mullins was sick.

Victoria Gray made sure the Mules stayed undefeated.

She set a school record with 30 rebounds and scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Mules to a 64-28 win over Ypsilanti Lincoln.

“She was on a mission tonight,” Bedford coach Bill Ryan said. “She had that look in her eyes.”

The 30 rebounds broke the record of 28 set by Shayna Munson during the 1998-99 season.

“I didn’t think I would see that record broken in my lifetime,” Ryan said.

Ryan sees some similarities between Munson and Gray.

“Both are dual-sport athletes (volleyball and basketball), who are probably going on to great things,” he said.

Effort is what sets Gray apart.

“She doesn’t take any plays off,” Ryan said. “She is incredible on both ends of the court.”

Peyton Behnke added 14 points for the 14-0 Mules, who led 19-6 after one quarter and 31-12 at the half.
