Girls basketball roundup: Pinckney off to best start in 7 years
Pinckney’s girls basketball team is well ahead of last year’s pace after just one week.
The Pirates rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat Ypsilanti Lincoln, 55-50, Friday night.
Pinckney is 2-0 for the first time since winning its first six games in 2015-16.
Last season, Pinckney lost its first seven games and didn’t get its second victory until the 12th game on Jan. 25.
Sophomore Audrey Wardlow and senior Kailey Lambert did almost all the damage offensively. Wardlow scored 24 points, including 13 in the third quarter. Lambert had eight of her 20 points in the third when Pinckney erupted for 25 points.
Fowlerville 56, Lansing Everett 14
Fowlerville (1-1) charged out to a 16-2 lead after one quarter and never looked back.
Angelle Haan scored 14 points and Julia Johnson had 12 for the Gladiators.
Charyl Stockwell 33, Rudolf Steiner 11
The Sentinels ended a 23-game losing streak behind an 18-point performance by Jordan Knight.
Stockwell (1-1) lost its final four games two seasons ago after beating Lutheran Westland 49-32 on March 11, 2021, went 0-18 last year and lost 52-14 to Stockbridge in this season’s opener.
Flint Carman-Ainsworth 59, Brighton 43
