Girls basketball roundup: Port Huron, Yale grab key road victories

Thursday was a busy night for girls basketball in the Blue Water Area. Nine games included at least one local team.

Here are some notable results.

Armada 54, Richmond 29

Claire Sniesak finished with 10 points and four steals to lead the Tigers past the Blue Devils. Ashlyn Upton added nine points, six assists and six steals for Armada, which improved to 7-4.

Richmond fell to 1-6 and was led by a game-high 13 points from Ashley Halligan.

Both teams are off until 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will visit Yale while the Blue Devils will travel to Croswell-Lexington.

Marysville 47, Marine City 42

Kaitlyn Cain scored a game-high 20 points as the Vikings survived a second-half rally from the Mariners. Avery Wolters chipped in 12 points for Marysville as it improved to 8-2.

Marine City, which fell to 8-2, was led by Janie Ferrone's 12 points. Jade Blanchard and Josalyn Dietlin each added 10.

Both teams are back in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings will head to St. Clair while the Mariners visit Warren Fitzgerald.

Port Huron 43, Grosse Pointe South 39

Mia Jacobs erupted for 26 points to help the Big Reds fend off the Blue Devils on the road. Julia Gilbert added eight points for Port Huron, which improved to 9-2.

The Big Reds are idle until they host Grosse Pointe North at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Sandusky 59, Capac 6

Brooke Jansen posted a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double as the Redskins rolled the Chiefs at home. Madison Long added eight points, three steals and two assists while Tori Viscogliosi finished with seven points, four steals and three boards.

Sandusky, which improved to 9-0, will host Ubly at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Yale 42, Almont 24

Abbi Dykstra's 11-point, 11-rebound double-double powered the Bulldogs past the Raiders. Jenna Griffith chipped in eight points for Yale, which improved to 6-4.

Almont fell to 2-6 and was led by Grace Koenig's 11 points. Grace Johnson finished with six.

Both teams will return to the floor at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will host Armada and the Raiders will welcome Algonac.
