Girls basketball: Vote now for the lohud Player of the Week

It's not too soon to begin thinking about the playoffs with the final month of the regular season well under way.

We are hitting the pause button before play resumes this week to recognize some of the top performers. Readers have an opportunity to vote for a favorite. The poll closes at 2 p.m. Tuesday and the winner will be is featured on various lohud.com social media platforms.

Previous winners are Alexa Charles of Sleepy Hollow, Meghan Casey of Ursuline, Ineivi Plata of White Plains, Michelle Mercado of Ossining, Surai Gurley of North Rockland and Paige Tepedino of Rye.

Emily Eckerson, Rye

The senior picked up her level of play last week, getting 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in a win over Pelham, 19 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to Harrison and 14 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in a win over Eastchester.

Grace Galgano, Brewster

The senior continued a productive season with 19 points, 17 rebounds, six blocks and five steals in a win over Somers. Galgano added 24 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks in a win over Nyack.

Kanijah Jacobs, Riverside

The junior continued to fill up the scorebook, dropping 23 points in a 60-34 win over Yonkers to reach 1,000 career points.

Grace Mallozzi, North Rockland

The senior stuffed the stat sheet in a win over Clarkstown South, getting 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Mallozzi followed up with a season-high 21 points in a loss to St. Joseph Hill Academy.

Paige Martin, Hastings

The senior has been a rock for the undefeated Yellow Jackets. She netted 16 points in a win over Edgemont and came up with 25 points in an important 49-42 league win over Irvington.

Sophie Nascimento, Ursuline

The freshman had the best week of her career, finishing with 17 points and six steals in a win over Baldwin, 25 points, nine steals and six rebounds in a win over Albertus Magnus and 25 points, nine steals and eight rebounds in a win over Mount Vernon.

Cadence Nicholas, Panas

The freshman has become a go-to scorer this season. She had 20 points in a win over previously undefeated Lakeland and closed out the week with 15 points in a victory over Pelham.

Nicole Sanfilippo, Ardsley

The senior became the seventh player in program history to net 1,000 career points when she dropped 19 in the opening half against Roosevelt.

Mia Strazza, Harrison

The freshman is having a breakout season. She collected 17 points, six rebouns and three assists in a win over Eastchester, 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a win over Rye and 27 points, nine rebounds and two assists in a win over Byram Hills.
