Girls basketball: Vote for the Varsity 845 player of the week

Polls are now open for the Varsity 845 girls basketball player of the week for December 12-18.

Nominations are pulled from reports sent to Varsity 845. Players from Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties are eligible.

Go to RecordOnline.com/sports and click on the Varsity 845 girls basketball player of the Week. Vote as often as you like (please, no computer bot voting) until 3 p.m. Thursday. Winners will be announced via Twitter @Varsity845.

Athletes who win are ineligible for upcoming polls for the next five weeks; all restrictions will be lifted upon the start of championship season. Reese Girardi of Warwick won the poll for Dec. 5-11.

The junior guard scored 15 points as the Huskies beat Spackenkill 45-37 on Tuesday.

Ashley MacCalla, Middletown

She scored 19 points as the Bears topped O’Neill 36-33 on Saturday.

Zoe Mesuch, Wallkill

The sophomore guard scored 17 points to lift Wallkill past Red Hook 53-38 on Saturday.

Aaliyah Mota, Monticello

The senior point guard scored 17 points in a 56-35 loss to Chester on Tuesday.

Gabriela Murphy, Marlboro

She scored 17 points as the Dukes upended New Paltz 55-30 on Monday.

Sierra Redmond, Middletown

She hit a fadeaway 3-pointer with 1.1 seconds left as the Bears nipped Kingston 48-47 on Tuesday.

Shannon Sgombick, Seward

The senior won tourney MVP honors at the Seward Invitational. Sgombick scored 12 points in the 39-32 title win over Minisink Valley on Wednesday.
