Girls golf state finals: Lansing Catholic third in Division 4 after opening day

The Lansing Catholic girls golf team has been in the mix for the Division 4 state championship in recent seasons.

And the Cougars find themselves in one of the best positions among Greater Lansing programs heading into the final day of competition at Grand Valley State’s The Meadows

Lansing Catholic is third in the team standings after its opening round of 363 on Friday. The Cougars are five strokes behind second place Adrian Lenawee Christian. Jackson Lumen Christi is the team leader with its round of 345.

Junior Sophie Hauser is 13th overall to lead Lansing Catholic after shooting an 84, while Brynn Anderson is 16th and carded an 86.

Bath sophomore Anna Schaibly is 19th and had a round of 87 to lead the Bees, who are 12th in the team standings.

DIVISION 2 AT FOREST AKERS WEST

Haslett senior Sydney Dausman is heading into the final day of the state finals in the hunt for an individual title. Dausman, who qualified as an individual, is four strokes off the lead while being in third on the leaderboard with her round of 77.

Byron Center's Macie Elzinga shot a 72 and is in front entering Saturday.

Mason leads the teams competing and is eighth, while DeWitt is 10th. Ava Clark shot an 88 and is 14th individually to lead Mason. Courtney Novak shot a 90 for DeWitt and is in 21st place.

DIVISION 3 AT MSU'S FOREST AKERS EAST

Charlotte's Hannah Robinson is second on the individual leaderboard after opening the state finals with a round of 75. Robinson sits five strokes behind leader Lauren Timpf of Macomb Lutheran North entering play Saturday.

Williamston's Nicole Schafer is also in the top 10 and is tied for fifth after shooting a 77.

Williamston is 12th in the team standings, while Charlotte is 14th.

DIVISION 1 AT BEDFORD VALLEY

Okemos sophomore Alena Li heads into the final round five strokes off the lead after shooting a 77 on Friday. Li is tied for seventh in the standings. Rochester Adams’ Grace Wang and Rockford’s Jessica Jolly had round of 72 and are tied atop the leaderboard.

Li’s strong opening round has helped put Okemos in sixth place in the team standings with their round of 350.Chloe Chen had the next best score for the Wolves and is 39th after shooting an 88.

Grand Ledge’s Isabel Kelly, who was an individual qualifier, is 16th after shooting an 81.
