Dec. 11—The Odessa High girls basketball team got off to a slow start against Lubbock High and it cost the Lady Bronchos.

Mecailin Marshall scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Lady Westerners to a 56-40 victory in a nondistrict game Friday at the OHS Fieldhouse.

Kamille Reynolds added 16 points and Faith Ford finished with 10 as Lubbock High (10-3) raced to a 17-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

Deoshanay Henderson scored 12 points to lead Odessa High (8-9), with Donajah Watkins and Yanni Ellis each finishing with 10 in the loss.

It was the first of three consecutive home games for the Lady Bronchos before the Christmas break.

Odessa High tried to climb back into the game in the second quarter, but Marshall single-handedly stopped that charge.

The Lady Bronchos scored 13 points in the quarter and Marshall matched them, the only points for Lubbock High in the period.

Marshall connected on a three of her six 3-pointers in the game during that run and the Lady Westerners were able to maintain their double-digit lead at halftime (30-19).

Lubbock High led by 12 (40-28) after three quarters and then Reynolds helped them pull away with half of her points coming in the final quarter.

Watkins scored six points in the final quarter for the Lady Bronchos.

Odessa High returns to the court against Shallowater at 6 p.m. Friday at the OHS Fieldhouse.
