Girls high school soccer semifinal games still on despite weather, AIA says

Girls high school soccer semifinals games are scheduled to take place Wednesday despite adverse weather conditions across the state, including two games involving Northern Arizona teams, according to the Arizona Interscholastic Association.

As of late this morning, the 6A, 5A and 4A games all were a go, officials said.

High winds across the Phoenix metro area, where the games will be played, were expected to subside by later Wednesday.

The first 6A division semifinal game will be played at 4:30 p.m., at Mountain Pointe High School in Ahwatukee, featuring No. 3-seed Perry facing No. 7 Highland. Perry comes into the game with a 10-2 regular season record, while Highland was 9-2-1. The two schools have already faced each other this season, in a game Perry won 1-0.

The second game of the night has No. 1 Xavier Prep faving No. 5 Hamilton. The match will take place at 6:30 p.m., also at Mountain Pointe. Xavier Prep has a regular season record of 12-0, while Hamilton has a 9-3 record. These two schools have also already faced each other during the regular season. Xavier ebeating Hamilton 2-1 in the regular season finale to secure a perfect record going into the playoffs.

The winners of the two semifinal games will meet for the championship at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Dobson High School in Mesa.

The two 5A division semifinal games will be played at Coronado High School in Scottsdale.

In the 4:30 p.m. game, No. 2 Chaparral and No. 6 Catalina Foothills face off. Chaparral comes into the match with an 11-1 record, Catalina Foothills 9-1. They did not meet during the regular season.

The second game of the night begins at 6:30 No. 1 Notre Dame Prep and No. 4 Casteel. Notre Dame Prep boasts a perfect 12-0 record, while Casteel has a 10-2 record.

The winners will face off for the championship at 11:30 am. Saturday at Dobson High School in Mesa.

In the 4A division, both semifinal games will be played at Glendale High School.

At 4:30 p.m., No. 2 Salpointe Catholic and No. 3 Kingman Lee Williams. Salpointe Catholic comes into the game with a 10-1-1 regular season record, while Lee Williams has a 11-0-1 record. These teams have yet to play each other at all this season.

Finally, the last match of the day for the 4A division will be played at 6:30 p.m. between No. 1 Sahuarita Walden Grove and No. 4 Flagstaff. AIA officials confirmed the game was still on as of late Wednesday morning, despite the hazardous winter weather in Flagstaff.

Flagstaff Unified School District officials could not be reached for additional comment. The district closed schools Wednesday.

Walden Grove also has a perfect 12-0 regular season record. Meanwhile Flagstaff has an 11-1 regular season record.

The winners will play in Friday's chamipionship game at 4:45 p.m. at Glendale High School.
