GIRLS HOOPS: Crater cruises to win over Parkrose

Dec. 28—CORVALLIS — After an eight-day break from basketball, Crater was eager to get back to action Tuesday afternoon in the Spartan Holiday Showcase at Corvallis High.

That did not bode well for the Parkrose girls basketball team.

Crater stormed out of the gates with 31 first-quarter points to take full command in the tournament opener before eventually securing a 76-12 victory.

The Comets (5-4) swiped 18 of their 33 overall steals in the first-quarter barrage, holding the Broncos scoreless in the first frame and using that defense to set up a fluid offense.

"In the first quarter and at the beginning of the third we were much smarter in transition and moved the ball much better," said Crater head coach Scott Dippel.

Abigail Winslow scored 19 points, Isabel McCauley had 14 points and five steals and Lydia Traore supplied 12 points and 10 rebounds in the runaway win for Crater. Samantha Gish added seven point and five rebounds.

"I thought not only did we do really well in transition," said Dippel, "but when we got into the half-court offense, Lydia had 10 of her 12 points in that first quarter. She just is doing a really good job of playing with her back to the basket and she was able to finish around the rim."

Keziah Littleton finished with eight points for the Broncos (0-5).
