Girls lacrosse: Vote for The Journal News/lohud Player of the Week

The Journal News/lohud Girls Lacrosse Player of the Week poll is now in full swing.

Last week, with coaches nominating 13 athletes for the honor, readers cast 41,360 votes.

Garnering 12,771, Haldane junior Lola Mahoney captured the vote. The goalie stopped 17 shots in a 12-7 win over Ossining.

Runner-up honors went to Horace Greeley's Erica Rosendorf, who finished with 11,182 votes.

This week, coaches have nominated eight athletes for their April 3-8 play.

There's no limit to the number of times an individual may vote.

Girls lacrosse April 3-9 recaps: Nolan powers John Jay-CR past Pelham, Yorktown tops Magnus

Gianna Altimari, Yorktown

In wins over Ursuline, Albertus Magnus and Pelham, the senior midfielder totaled 10 goals and seven assists. She also beat opponents to six loose balls and won 20 draws.

Nicky Einhorn, Briarcliff

The freshman attacker had four goals and an assist in a 10-9 win over Brewster that was decided in the game's final moments Einhorn scored to break an 8-8 tie with 1:39 left. After Brewster knotted the score at 9 with 45 seconds to play, Einhorn hit Adiranna Scanga with a pass and Scanga netted the game-winning goal with only 25 seconds to play. The goal and assist gave Einhorn 100 career varsity points for the Bears.

Isabel Kocaj, Lakeland/Panas

The Lakeland junior, a midfielder, scored 10 goals over two Rebel wins last week. She had a hat trick in a 7-6 win over Clarkstown North before exploding for seven goals in a 15-12 win over Pleasantville. In that game, she ran onto the field after serving a two-minute penalty, immediately got the ball and eluded multiple defenders in driving on net and scoring. That goal came with Pleasantville having pulled within two late. All slight hope of a Panther comeback ended shortly after that when Kocaj intercepted a pass deep in the Rebels' defensive territory.

Juliana Mangione, Mahopac

The junior midfielder scored four times and had an assist in a 9-8 win over crosstown rival Carmel. She also came up big defensively throughout the game.

Angie Morena Sosa, Putnam Valley

A second-year netminder, the junior had 13 saves in a loss last week to Eastchester. That brought her season save total to 41.

Emma O'Callaghan, Albertus Magnus

The senior amassed 16 goals last week in a four-game span that also saw her register five assists and win 13 draws. The attackman had four of her team's 10 goals and assisted on three other goals in a loss to Somers. She also won four draws in that game.. She had two goals and an assist and won a draw win in a setback to New Jersey's Immaculate Heart Academy. O'Callaghan also scored six of her team's 10 goals and won four draws in a loss to Yorktown. And in a win over Clarkstown South, she scored four times, had an assist and won four draws.

Kacey Pritts, Pearl River

The sophomore attacker had three goals and three assists in a win over Nanuet and netted a goal and had four assists in a win over Arlington.

Tatum Walsh, Horace Greeley

The junior keeper stopped 12 shots in the Quakers' 13-12 win over Rye.
