Girls soccer preview: Four Fall River teams hit the road to begin the postseason

Four Herald News girls soccer teams — Atlantis Charter, Diman, Durfee, and Somerset Berkley — have punched their ticket to the 2022 MIAA playoffs.

All four local teams will take their talents on the road, starting on Friday.

Here are the top 16 players to watch heading into the postseason and upcoming matchups:

Atlantis Charter: Caitlynn Cabral, Cidney Barboza, Destiny Rodney

The Tritons will look to their stars to lead the way in the upcoming state tournament. Senior Caitlynn Cabral is one of the leaders for Atlantis Charter. She can score goals and put pressure on the defense. Junior Cidney Barboza is another dependable scorer inside the goal mouth. Senior Destiny Rodney had eight goals during the regular season, including a few of them in dramatic fashion. She is a threat to score and wins a lot of 50/50 balls.

Diman: Elizabeth Kinnane, Chyenne Brito, Filipa Duarte

The Bengals will lean on their top scorers to help lead them into the postseason. One of the top players in the area is Elizabeth Kinnane. She handles the ball well and can score at any time. Chyenne Brito is another hard-nosed player who can score with the best of them. Filipa Duarte showed she can score and often too. All three have the ability to win 50/50 ball on the field.

Durfee: Maddie Hargraves, Julia Hargarves, Amilia Dias, Destani Alua-Rioux, Emma McDonnell

The Hilltoppers will rely on everyone if they're going to make a deep run in the state tournament. Amilia Dias and Destani Alua-Rioux (nine goals, four assists) provide senior leadership. Each are capable of scoring goals. The Hargraves sisters, Julia and Maddie, have combined for 31 goals. Emma McDonnell has good speed and athleticism. She has nine goals and four assists.

Somerset Berkley: Jocelyn Wilson, Mia Gentile, Alex Cook, Lauren Roosa, Aryanna Secia

Senior captain and center midfielder Jocelyn Wilson leads the way for the Raiders as they look for a deep run in the postseason. Junior right forward Mia Gentile is capable of a breakout game. Junior center back Lauren Roosa is back from an injury and has sparked SBR's offense down the stretch. Talented freshman Aryanna Secia has been a pleasant surprise and is a threat to score. Senior center back Alex Cook controls the defense and generally handles the opponent's best player.

TOURNAMENT GLANCE

In each of the five divisions, the top 32 power-ranked teams qualified automatically along with any teams power-seeded 33 or below with at least a .500 winning percentage. Overall, 213 girls teams will compete to see which one lands at the state championship matches. The MIAA will provide sites for state semi finals (round of 4) and state finals as defined by TMC Site policy.

ATLANTIS CHARTER TRITONS

Record: 6-3-1

Seed: No. 46th seed in Division V

Opening matchup: Atlantis Charter travels to No. 19 Blue Hills on Friday, 2:30 p.m.

Outlook: First-year Triton head coach Joe Keiser has put together a very competitive group who has no quit in them. Now Atlantis Charter's young group will get its first taste of the postseason. First up is unbeaten Blue Hills on the road. The winner will face No. 14 St. John Paul II.

DIMAN BENGALS

Record: 10-7-2

Seed: No. 42nd seed in Division III

Opening matchup: Diman travels to face No. 23 seed Foxboro on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Outlook: The Bengals got off to a hot start before cooling off late in the season. Now, Diman is looking to turn it around. Standing in their way is Foxboro on the road. The winner will face No. 10 Dedham.

DURFEE HILLTOPPERS

Record: 12-5-1

Seed: No. 36th seed in Division I

Opening matchup: Durfee travels to face No. 29 Peabody on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Outlook: The Hilltoppers comes into the postseason with confidence and stars players, who are ready to take it to the next level. On the horizon for Durfee is No. 29 Peabody on the road. The winner will face No. 4 Algonquin.

SOMERSET BERKLEY RAIDERS

Record: 9-6-3

Seed: No. 43th seed in Division II

Opening matchup: Somerset Berkley travels to face No. 22 Nauset on Friday at 5 p.m.

Outlook: The Raiders enter the postseason on a hot streak and will look to keep it going. Standing in SBR's way is No. 22 Nauset on the road. The winner takes on 11th seed Longmeadow.
