Girls swim teams start post-season

Feb. 3—The county girls swimming teams kicked off their postseasons on Thursday night at two different sectional sites.

Lebanon and Zionsville competed at the West Lafayette Sectional, while Western Boone headed over to Crawfordsville.

Zionsville is searching for its 18th-straight sectional title, while Western Boone is aiming for its third straight.

The top-8 finishers on Thursday return to swim for the sectional title on Saturday. The next eight swim in the consolations.

All of diving will also take place on Saturday.

West Lafayette

In the 200-medley relay, Zionsville's medley relay team of Ava Peterson, Hailey Paulick, Claire McAfee and Maddy Akin qualified first in 1:51.74. Lebanon's team of Jessie Stevens, Anna Hale, Cora Dial and Karlee Avila qualified fourth in 2:02.53.

In the 200-free, Zionsville's Annabelle Swiney qualified first in 1:54.73. Ava Metzger was third in 1:55.98 and Maggie Hadley was fourth in 1:55.98. Lebanon's Paige Howard was 11th in 2:14.45 and Bea Johnson was 13th in 2:17.55.

In the 200-IM, Zionsville's Molly Simmons qualified first in 2:10.41. Annabel Hermacinski was second in 2:21.99 and Kira Hunter was third in 2:13.35. Lebanon's Kylee Rodriguez was 15th in 2:42.90.

In the 50-free, Zionsville's Katie Buroker was second in 25.20. Akin was third in 25.26 and Avery Christian was fifth in 25.67. Lebanon's Dial was ninth in 26.52 and Avila was 16th in 27.86.

In the 100-butterfly, Hermacinski qualified first in 57.81. McAfee was second in 59.68 and Peterson was third in 1:00.14. Lebanon's Hale qualified eighth in 1:08.13.

In the 100-free, Buroker qualified first in 54.92. Christian was third in 55.26 and Paulick was fourth in 55.28. Lebanon's Howard was ninth in 59.49.

In the 500-free, Metzger qualified first in 5:10.49. Swiney was third in 5:18.11 and Hunter was fourth in 5:24.66. For Lebanon, Johnson was 14th in 6:23.21.

In the 200-yard free relay, Zionsville's team of Allie Buroker, Hunter, Christian and Metzger was second in 1:42.34. Lebanon's team of Dial, Hale, Howard and Johnson was fifth in 1:50.72.

In the backstroke, Simmons qualified first in 57.04. Peterson was third in 1:00.47 and Paulick was fourth in 1:01.37. Lebanon's Dial was sixth in 1:04.51, with Stevens 10th in 1:09.67 and Anna Howard 11th in 1:11.57.

In the breaststroke, Akin qualified first in 1:06.70. Hadley was fourth in 1:09.29 and Allie Buroker was seventh in 1:10.45. Hale was eighth for Lebanon in 1:13.42 and Rodriguez was 14th in 1:22.32.

In the 400-free relay, Zionsville qualified first with the team of Hermacinski, Christian, Hunter and Hadley in a time of 3:39.71. Lebanon's team of Howard, Johnson, Stevens and Howard was sixth in 4:21.09.

Crawfordsville

Thursday's results set-up what should be a down to the wire battle for the team title.

In the medley relay, Western Boone's team of Jenna Twitty, Micah Hole, Hannah Hayden and Katherine Aliff qualified ninth in 2:10.16.

In the 200-free, Kaitlyn Crowley qualified fourth in 2:12.56 and Samantha Jones qualified fifth in 2:12.91.

In the 200-IM, Arianna Stieber qualified first in 2:19.02. Hayden was ninth in 2:35.93 and Twitty was 10th in 2:37.42.

In the 50, Adelaide Jones qualified second in 25.61. Aliff was 10th in 27.18.

In the butterfly, Hayden was fifth in 1:11.10. Lindsey Steimel was 12th in 1:22.29 and Annabelle Mickschl was 16th in 1:27.22.

In the 100-free, Rashel Anderson qualified third in 58.26. Aliff was seventh in 59.18 and Samantha Jones was eighth in 59.53.

In the 500-free, Crowley was fifth in 5:54.05. In the 200-free relay, the team of Stieber, Anderson, Jones and Jones qualified second in 1:46.47.

In the backstroke, Stieber qualified third in 1:02.61. Anderson was fifth in 1:07.99 and Twitty was ninth in 1:10.73.

In the 400-free relay, the team of Stieber, Aliff, Anderson and Adelaide Jones was first in 3:57.47.
