Girls Swimming and Diving: Willmar does well at big meet in West Fargo
Sep. 20—WEST FARGO, N.D. — With nine top-10 finishes, the Willmar girls swimming and diving team took fifth Saturday at the Border Battle at the Hulbert Aquatics Center.
Alexandria won the 12-team meet with 391 points, followed by Sheyenne, North Dakota (384), Andover (308), Brainerd (264) and Willmar (184).
Willmar's top performance came courtesy of Aubrey Schueler, who won the 100-yard butterfly at 1 minute, 5.36 seconds.
Ava Brogren placed second in the 200 individual medley (2:18.52) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.44). Shelby Reed was fifth in the 50 freestyle (26.09) and sixth in the 100 freestyle (58.80). Cate Brogren added a ninth-place time in the 500 freestyle (5:56.88). Willmar also had top-10 finishes in the 200 freestyle relay (fourth, 1:47.45), 400 freestyle relay (fourth, 3:57.41) and 200 medley relay (seventh, 2:11.02).
The Morris/Minnewaska Gators finished in 11th place with 60 points. Their top finish came via Shannon Dougherty, who was eighth in the 50 freestyle (26.82) and 100 freestyle (59.11).
Willmar's next meet is at home Thursday against Central Lakes Conference foe Sartell.
