Girls tennis: Dragons earn a sweep over Hutchinson

Sep. 23—HUTCHINSON — The Litchfield tennis team earned another Wright County Conference squad Thursday, beating the Hutchinson Tigers, 7-0.

Litchfield is ranked fourth in the state in Class A.

There were three three-set matches.

At No. 4 singles, the Dragons' Kaitlyn Palmer beat Kaitlyn Rahne 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-4.

At No. 2 doubles, Litchfield's Trinity Hawes and Amelia Benson edged Avery Watzke and Audrey Hanson 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

And at No. 3 doubles, the Dragons' Anna Stilwell and Emma Anderson beat Stella Docken and Erin White 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.

Litchfield is host to an eight-team tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday. Teams competing include: Annandale, Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Crookston, Delano, Owatonna, St. Peter and Staples-Motley.

New London-Spicer improved to 3-1 in the Wright County Conference and 10-3 overall with the victory over Glencoe-Silver Lake at New London.

The Wildcats were led by the No. 1 doubles team of Delaney Hanson and Brooke Adelman, who beat Jenna Trippel and Lydia Simons 7-6 (6), 6-3.

"Delaney Hanson and Brooke Adelman were pushed and challenged tonight by an athletic GSL doubles team," NLS head coach Chad Schmiesing said. "You have to give GSL credit for keeping us off balance, but Delaney and Brooke simply kept plugging away and moving forward and it paid off."

NLS is host to Sauk Centre at 4 p.m. Monday in New London. It's Senior Night for the Wildcats.

Adali Laidlaw earned Willmar's point in the Central Lakes Conference match at Fergus Falls.

Laidlaw beat the Otters' Isabella Abrahams 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Earlier this season, Laidlaw lost to Fergus Falls' No. 1 player, 6-2, 6-0.

The Cardinals are now 0-9 in the CLC and 0-11 overall. Fergus Falls is 4-4 in conference play and 8-7 overall.

Willmar is host to Sartell at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in another CLC dual.

MACCRAY's Greta Meyer won at No. 3 singles and Erika Pieper took the No. 4 singles match. The Wolverines also earned a win at No. 3 doubles, where Ella Kienitz and Mia Shubert beat Grace Hauglie and Ellen Reed 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

MACCRAY is host to Worthington at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Clara City.
