Girls tennis: MACCRAY's Nokleby upsets top seed, advances to 3A singles final four
Oct. 14—SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — MACCRAY's Tayte Nokleby won a marathon quarterfinal match to advance to the Section 3A girls tennis singles semifinals following Day 1 of the individual tournament Thursday at the Huether Family Match Pointe.
The eighth seed in the bracket, Nokleby upset top-seeded Katelyn Wittnebel of Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd 2-6, 6-2 7-6 (7-4) to reach the final four. She will face No. 4 Toryn Woelber of Pipestone in the semifinals Tuesday back in Sioux Falls.
In the other singles semifinals, it will be No. 3 Elle Klescher of Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg facing No. 7 Maddie Matthies of LQPV/D-B.
Benson/KMS' Elise Duncan and Greta Multhauf were the top-seeded team in doubles and advanced to the semis. They will face No. 4 Claire Lowry and Kayla Jahn of LQPV/D-B for a spot in Tuesday's final. In the other semifinal match, it'll be No. 2 Sarah Stegenga and Katharine Kelm of Luverne against No. 3 Ashley Koehl and Karlie Bruns of Morris/Chokio-Alberta/West Central Area.
