Girls tennis roundup: Litchfield sends individuals to state meet

Oct. 19—ROGERS — Along with the team, the Litchfield girls tennis team will send a singles player and a doubles pairing to the Class A state tournament.

Playing at the Rogers Tennis Club on Tuesday, the Dragons' duo of Karlee Prahl and Ryanna Steinhaus won the Section 6A doubles championship. They opened play Tuesday with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Osakis' Ellie George and Madeline Anderson in the semifinals. Playing New London-Spicer's Brooke Adelman and Delaney Hanson in the finals, Prahl and Steinhaus secured the section title, 6-0, 6-1. Adelman and Hanson will also go to state after finishing as the section runners-up.

Litchfield's Isla Dille is also state-bound following a second-place finish in the singles bracket. She started Tuesday with a 6-1, 6-2 semifinal win against Sauk Centre's Hailey Hokanson. Dille lost the championship match against Osakis' Leah Maddock, 6-2, 6-1.

The Class A state girls tennis tournament begins with the team tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by the individual tournament Thursday and Friday. All four days take place at the Reed-Sweatt Family tennis Center in Minneapolis.

Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg will send a singles player and a doubles team to the state tournament following the Section 3A individual tournament at Huether Family Match Pointe at Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

In doubles, the Braves' Elise Duncan and Greta Multhauf won the section championship. They beat Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd's Claire Lowry and Kayla Jahn in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-0. Then in the final, Duncan and Multhauf defeated Luverne's Sarah Stegenga and Katharine Kelm, 6-2, 6-1.

In singles, Benson/KMS' Elle Kletscher will go to state after finishing second. She won her semifinals match over LQPV/D-B's Madelyn Matthies, 7-5, 6-4. Kletscher ended up losing in the finals to Pipestone's Toryn Woelber, 6-4, 6-0.

Lowry and Jahn were the section runners-up and will go to state for LQPV/D-B. Playing Stegenga and Kelm in a true second-place match, Lowry and Jahn took the match in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.
