Girls tennis roundup: LQPV/D-B downed by Luverne in 3A semifinals

Oct. 7—SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — It came down to No. 4 singles, where Luverne's Caitlin Kindt edged Saide Hacker 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7) in the Section 3A girls tennis semifinals Thursday at the Huether Family Match Pointe.

Luverne went on to win the match 4-3.

Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd earned its three points at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles, getting victories from Katelyn Wittnebel, Maddie Matthies and Hannah Oie.

Luverne swept the doubles to advance.

Luverne then beat Pipestone in the championship, 4-3. Pipestone advanced by beating Morris/Chokio-Alberta 5-2 in the semifinals.

Pipestone is headed to the state Class A tournament Oct. 25 at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

Second-seeded New London-Spicer beat Sauk Centre in the Section 6A quarterfinals at New London.

The Mainstreeters' lone victory came at No. 1 singles, where Haily Hokanson beat Mya Mayhew 6-1, 6-3.

All the Wildcats' other points came in straight sets.

The semifinals and finals are Tuesday at the Rogers Tennis Club. NLS plays third-seeded West Central Area in the semifinals. West Central beat St. John's Prep 7-0.
