Girls tennis roundup: Willmar swept in its season-opener

Aug. 26—ALEXANDRIA — The Willmar girls tennis team dropped its first match of the 2022 season.

Central Lakes Conference rival Alexandria got the sweep at home on Thursday, 7-0.

At No. 3 singles, Willmar's Kennedy Mara pushed her match to a third set. She ultimately lost to Alexandria's Kylie Lattimer, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.

Willmar has its first home meet of the season at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday against Fergus Falls.

NLS swept the doubles in straight sets and won at Nos. 1, 3 and 4 singles. The Wildcats' Mya Mayhew beat Elle Kletscher 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.

Benson/KMS' point came at No. 2 singles. Elise Duncan defeated Emily Ruter 2-6, 7-5, 13-11.
