Giving Back - 23rd Annual Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America

Giving Back - Kyle Petty Revives Sturgis Charity Ride

NASCAR star Kyle Petty is at it again. The 23rd Annual Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America has raised $17.5 for the Victory Junction Camp and other children’s charities and will roll into South Dakota after making its way through the Pacific Northwest on the way to Sturgis over the rest of May, 2017. The Camp was established by the Petty family in memory of Kyle’s son Adam, a fourth-generation driver killed in a practice crash at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in May 2000. The camp in Randleman, N.C. provides experiences for children with chronic and life-threatening diseases.

The racer will lead some 200 riders into Sturgis this week before making their way back to Milwaukee. Among the other riders are his father, NASCAR legend Richard Petty, drivers Harry Gant, Hershel McGriff and David Ragan, former NFL football great Herschel Walker, and Super Bowl XXII champion George Rogers.

The ride rolls into Deadwood for an overnight stay at the Gold Dust Hotel about 4 p.m. Tuesday 5/16. The tour will make another stop Wednesday morning at Badlands Harley-Davidson, 601 Main St. in Wall. Celebrity riders will be available for pictures and autographs at both stops. Kyle Petty said many of the riders are looking forward to seeing Deadwood, Mount Rushmore National Memorial and the Badlands.

“They’ve seen pictures of it their whole life, but until you’ve stood at the base of Mount Rushmore, you’ve not seen it,” he said in an interview with reporter Jim Holland. “And the riding out there is phenomenal,” he said.

The ride will stop in Mitchell overnight on Wednesday and is scheduled to end at the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee on Friday.
