Glastonbury 2023 has broken the digital and audio audience records on both BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds.

To date, content from the four-day music event was streamed a staggering 50.3 million times across both platforms, which is 47% increase on 2022’s festival.

It was a record-breaking year all round, as BBC viewers streamed the impressive line-up 47.5 million times on iPlayer, which is 49% more than before.

Headliner Elton John’s set on the Pyramid Stage on Sunday (June 25) was the most popular segment on the Glastonbury live channel, and was streamed 4.3 million times.

Elton’s performance also broke the record for an overnight audience on BBC One at Glastonbury, with a five-minute peak audience of 7.6 million and held an average of 7.3 million viewers.

This was followed closely by Saturday’s live stream (3.8 million) with Friday’s instalment having 3.2 million views.

Meanwhile, music from the weekend was listened to 2.8 million times on BBC Sounds, which was also a 26% increase compared to the year before.

Radio 2 favourite Zoe Ball topped the charts with her coverage of the variety of live performances and interviews with artists such as Fatboy Slim, Basil Brush as well as a workout led by Joe Wicks.

For the first time in history, Glastonbury live-streamed performances on the Pyramid Stage in British Sign Language onto BBC iPlayer.
