Glastonbury nonprofits awarded $28,000 in grants

Jul. 16—GLASTONBURY — The Glastonbury Greater Together Community Fund recently awarded $28,000 in grants to 11 nonprofits.

The fund, established by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving in 2019, supports organizations that benefit people and institutions in the areas of health, education, social welfare, arts, culture, and the environment.

The grant awards include:

—$4,500 for Hawkwing Inc.'s Youth Leadership and Giveback Experience, a program that teaches youth to make positive impacts in the community.

—$4,500 for Community Health Resources to support Project Zero Suicide, an evidence-based suicide prevention training program.

—$2,500 for Glastonbury Arts Inc., $2,500 to support six symposiums in its "Got Art" series.

—$1,000 for the Glastonbury MLK Community Initiative to support efforts to promote social justice and civil rights.

—$1,000 for Glastonbury Partners in Planting Inc. to support the planting of pollinators at the Welles Turner Public Library and building a kiosk at the Glastonbury Community Gardens.

—$1,250 to Glastonbury River Runners to support its Rising Stars Youth Running Program.

—$4,000 for Hartford Interval House Inc. to provide to residents who are victims of domestic violence through its Victim to Survivor program.

—$4,000 for Operation Fuel Inc. to provide emergency energy assistance for low- and moderate-income families living in Glastonbury.

—$2,000 for Special Olympics of Connecticut to support Glastonbury athletes with intellectual disabilities.

—$1,000 for Town of Glastonbury to support a new effort to bring poetry to outdoor settings.

—$2,250 for UR Community Cares Inc., which connects older and physically disabled residents with local volunteers who provide home-based assistance at no charge.
