Glastonbury to revalue property next year

Nov. 25—GLASTONBURY — The town will revalue local property next year for purposes of computing local property taxes, officials announced.

The town has contracted with Vision Government Solutions Inc. of Hudson, Massachusetts, to conduct the revaluation, which state law requires towns to do every five years.

The purpose of the revaluation is to determine the current fair market value of every property in town in order to distribute the tax burden fairly among property owners. Connecticut assesses all property at 70% of fair market value.

Starting in January, Vision personnel will drive through town, reviewing the characteristics of properties and taking photographs of them. The company's vehicles will be registered with the town and will have "Assessor's Office" signs in their windows.

Later next year, there will be informal hearings at which property owners can discuss the value of their properties with Vision personnel. In 2023, property owners who disagree with their assessments will have the opportunity for formal hearings before the town's Board of Assessment Appeals and for appeals to superior court if they disagree with the board's decision.

People with questions about the revaluation can call the assessor's office at 860-652-7600 or visit

The new property valuations will apply to the Oct. 1, 2022, grand list, which will be made public early in 2023. It will be used to compute taxes due in July 2023 and January 2024.

Absent changes to a property or a valuation change brought about through an appeal, those assessments will remain in effect for five years.
