Glen Ellyn Coronavirus Update: 5 Percent Increase In Past Week

GLEN ELLYN, IL — The number of coronavirus cases in Glen Ellyn has increased by just over 5 percent in the past week, according to information from the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sept. 9, the village had reported 491 cases of the new coronavirus. Those numbers had increased to 517 as of Sept. 16.

To date, there have been a total of three coronavirus-related deaths in the village.

In nearby Wheaton, the number of coronavirus cases had increased by nearly 8 percent. As of Sept. 9, there had been 645 cases reported in Wheaton. The number of cases reported in Wheaton as of Sept. 16 was 694.

Wheaton has had 23 confirmed deaths since the county started tracking its coronavirus numbers.

According to the DCHD website, there were two active coronavirus cases in Glen Ellyn as of Sept. 16. In contrast, there were 28 active cases in Glen Ellyn on Sept. 9. According to county health officials, these numbers could be "much higher" due to unreported cases.

DuPage County recently reached a warning level for coronavirus transmission, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). IDPH reports that DuPage County reached the warning level due to an increase in weekly deaths and in cases per 100,000 people.
