Glen Oaks teams split weekend games

The Glen Oaks Community College hoops teams split games this past weekend. The women beat Grace Christian 83-71 but the men dropped an 82-75 decision to Parkland College. The victory was the second in a row for Glen Oaks, which improved to 5-8 with the win.

The Glen Oaks women had an offensive outburst on Friday. The Lady Vikings won by a dozen over Grace Christian, but had to come from behind after one quarter and halftime.

Grace Christian led 20-12 after the opening 10 minutes. At halftime, their lead was 37-33.

But when it came to the second half, Glen Oaks played better on both ends of the court.

Glen Oaks finished by connecting on just 37.7 percent from the floor for the game, but they scored 25 points in both the third and fourth quarters.

The Vikings continued to be solid from the free-throw line in the game. They connected on 25-of-29 from the stripe, which helped offset a terrible game from the 3-point line, where they made just 6-of-25 shots from downtown.

There were 47 combined turnovers in the game for both teams. GOCC won big on the glass, though, at 54-41, which helped them score 14 second-chance points in the game.

Glen Oaks had four players finish in double figures for the game.

Hannah Outlaw led the way with 24 points, she also grabbed 14 rebounds. Angel Gary tossed in 14 points, Eliana Wilson added 13 and Emma Allison chipped in with 10. Wilson grabbed 11 rebounds with five assists.

Sheneice Halmon scored seven points in 10 minutes of play. Payton Rangel scored five points, Zharia Hotobah-During scored four while Allison Starbuck and Morgan Margin each had three.

For the men, the Vikings led 40-32 at halftime. Parkland College out-scored them 50-35 in the second half. Both teams shot better than 45 percent from the floor in the game and Glen Oaks knocked down 11 triples in the game.

One of the bigger edges in the game came in the paint. There, Parkland College out-scored Glen Oaks 44-22, doubling up the Vikings. Parkland also made more free throws (18) than Glen Oaks shot (17) on the day.

There were four Vikings who finished in double figures for the game.

Both Gavin Etter and Daivion Boleware finished with 17 points each. The two combined to knock down 8-of-11 triples in the game. Malik Tansmore scored 14 points for GOCC in 35 minutes of action.

Also finishing with double figures was Caleb Byrd with 10. Antonio Belton scored eight points with eight rebounds, Tylan Harris tossed in three points.

Tansmore grabbed nine rebounds in the game. Derek Anderson handed out four assists, Harris had three.
