Glendora man identified as suspect killed in Beaumont officer-involved shooting

The Riverside County Coroner's office has identified Dennis McHugh, 44, of Glendora, as the suspect who was killed during an officer-involved shooting in Beaumont on New Year's Eve.

Deputies from the Perris Sheriff's Station had responded to a report of a domestic violence dispute at the 17000 block of Ridge Canyon Drive at around 10 p.m. on Dec. 30, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

McHugh fled the scene before deputies arrived. The department said it discovered he had a felony warrant for a violation of an assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, kidnapping, vandalism and a domestic violence restraining order violation.

A helicopter later located McHugh's car at the 400 block of East Fourth Street in Beaumont. McHugh attempted to flee by ramming the car into police cars and a private car, which caused non-life threatening injuries to an officer, according to the department.

The department said it was during that time an officer and deputy involved shooting occurred. Sheriff's officials later approached McHugh's car after making multiple attempts to have him exit and found he had died.

A Riverside County District Attorney's Office investigator will investigate the incident with the assistance of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department Force Investigations Detail.

The Beaumont Police Department, Banning Police Department, and the California Highway Patrol had also assisted in the pursuit and arrest.
