Gloverville Elementary fundraiser to help buy book vending machine
Sep. 6—Ready to run for a good cause? Gloverville Elementary School is hosting a Run For the Love of Reading race Saturday, Sept. 9 at Citizens Park. The event will feature a 5K race and 1-mile fun run. Participants of all ages are welcome.
The event is a fundraiser to help the school purchase a book vending machine, which is similar to other vending machines but dispenses books instead of snacks or drinks. According to the event's website, "This cutting-edge machine will enable students to easily access a wide selection of age-appropriate books, inspiring them to read more and cultivate a lifelong love for learning."
All participants are asked to bring a new or gently used children's book appropriate for ages 4-12 to help fill the vending machine.
The race starts at 8 a.m. at Field 4 at Citizens Park, 651 Old Airport Road. Day-of registration and packet pickup will be from 7 to 7:45 a.m. The registration fee is $25 for the 5K and $15 for the 1-mile fun run. Medals and prizes will be available for age-category winners and overall winners.
