General Motors revealed Thursday it's found a new stream of revenue stemming from its dealership arm: fixing Tesla EVs. Speaking at an investor day for the company, President Mark Reuss told analysts and investors GM has fixed over 11,000 of the Tesla-branded electric vehicles since 2021, Barron's reports.

“That’s a growing business for us,” Reuss told the crowd. “I gotta say it’s a new business.”

Reuss did not specify what sorts of maintenance or repairs GM dealerships have been performing on Tesla vehicles. It's likely the service items are ones that don't require any software-related intervention to complete, like brake jobs, tire swaps, suspension repair, lighting replacement, and inspections. We've reached out to the company for more details.

While GM's successful Tesla repair business comes as a surprise, it makes some sense. As Barron's points out, Tesla is a fast-growing company that doesn't have nearly the same car-to-service-center ratio as an established automaker like GM. That means there aren't as many official facilities around to service cars. Tesla owners have long harped on the long wait times for service, and it seems some owners are turning to out-of-network parties to get stuff done.
