'Today' show, 'GMA,' 'Ellen,' more daytime TV hosts celebrate Halloween with festive costumes

Halloween looks different this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but there's one tradition that's here to stay: creative costumes!

With social distancing measures still in place, festive activities such as trick-or-treating, indoor parties and haunted houses are now considered high risk activities by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

But morning and daytime talk show hosts, including Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb from the "Today" show and Kelly Ripa from "Live with Kelly and Ryan," are making sure that viewers get into the Halloween spirit by showing off their looks.

Though shows have had to make adjustments amid the pandemic, from replacing a live in-person audience with a virtual one to implementing more rigid sanitation protocols, that didn't stop them from getting festive Friday with a "Schitt's Creek" parody, a tribute to Broadway icons and more.

"Live with Kelly and Ryan"

The Daytime Emmy-award winning show paid tribute to another big award winner: Schitt's Creek.

Wearing the iconic pope outfit from Season 6, Ripa looked almost unrecognizable while dressed as the indomitable Moira Rose (played by Catherine O'Hara), while Seacrest sported the iconic black lightning bolt sweater and white sunglasses as her flamboyant son, David (played by Dan Levy).

But one costume isn't enough for the dynamic duo! Along with Ripa's Baby Yoda costume from the Disney+ "Star Wars" series "The Mandalorian," the two also showed off their fierce sides by parodying "Tiger King," with Ripa in a blonde wig and mustache as Joe Exotic and Seacrest in a tiger onesie.

"Today"

The hosts of the morning program gave the audience something to sing about with their dramatic and lively "Best of Broadway" costumes. Hoda Kotb looked regal in her princess gown and blonde wig as Glinda from "Wicked." And of course, who else to play Elphaba than the gravity-defying Savannah Guthrie, who looked spooky with her green face.

In a tribute to "Hamilton," Craig Melvin got historical in his colonial coat and slicked back hair as the titular Alexander Hamilton, and Al Roker donned a crown and bright red robe as the menacing King George.

Jenna Bush Hager lip-synced her heart out as Grizabella from "Cats," with her furry tail, cat ears and impressive face makeup.

To bring some upbeat music into the show, Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer kicked it off with their sparkly fringe dresses as Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart from "Chicago."

"Good Morning America"

Though the anchors didn't dress up this year, "Good Morning America" woke fans up with a cute surprise: adorable kids and dog costumes!

Cecilia Vega, Michael Strahan and George Stephanopoulos were replaced by mini doppelgangers, as the adorable lookalikes stepped in for the show's anchors.

Vega, Strahan and Stephanopoulos also showed viewers their dogs' cutest looks, from a unicorn to Batman, and Ginger Zee showed off her furry friend's rocket costume made from recycled plastic bottles and tissue paper.

"Ellen DeGeneres"

Ellen DeGeneres honored her favorite superhero with this year's costume: a nurse!

Wearing a white nurse's uniform with a Superman logo as well as a blue-and-red cape, the TV host used her talk show to highlight first responders’ essential roles during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I think all nurses are superheroes. Their superpower is going 48 hours without sleep," she said. "Now more than ever we are realizing who the true superheroes are: People like nurses and teachers, they're all essential workers."

"The Wendy Williams Show"

COVID-19 isn't stopping Wendy Williams and her annual costumes. This year, she wrapped herself in an elegant white toga to dress up as Greek goddess.

"The Drew Barrymore Show"

For the show's first Halloween special, Drew Barrymore brought some nostalgia and magic with her pink gown and sparkling wand as Glinda from "ThWizard of Oz." The one-hour daytime show premiered Sept. 14.

"The Tamron Hall Show"

On the special Halloween episode of "The Tamron Hall Show," Hall channeled her inner Diana Ross with not one, but three glamorous costumes.

She recreated some of the legendary singer's best onstage looks, which included a white sequined dress with fur sleeves, sparkling orange bodysuit and midi dress with a cute updo.

"The Real"

The hosts of the daytime program tried to make light of the chaotic year that is 2020 with some outrageous costumes. Loni Love poked fun at the toilet paper shortage during the start of the pandemic, dressing as the last roll of toilet paper, and Garcelle Beauvais appeared as the NBA Bubble, wearing a basketball player's uniform while sitting in a clear enclosure. Jeannie Mai sported protective gear as Naomi Campbell in her COVID airport attire, and Adrienne Bailon Houghton rocked glasses and a goatee as Teddy Riley vs. Technology in his Verzuz battle against Babyface.

"The Talk"

Even though trick-or-treating might not happen, "The Talk" brought us a sweet treat nonetheless, with the hosts all dressed as characters from "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

Eve wore a cowboy outfit as Mike Teavee, and Sharon Osbourne threw a fit in a red dress and blonde wig as Veruca Salt. Sheryl Underwood wore all blue (yes, even the bubblegum) as Violet Beauregarde, and Carrie Ann Inaba sported a purple coat and brown top hat as the Candy King himself, Willy Wonka.

"Rachael Ray Show"

Rachael Ray and her husband, John Cusimano, paid homage to 1980's "Caddyshack" on Friday's episode of her show, with Cusimano dressed as Carl Spackler (played by Bill Murray) and Ray as the gopher.
