When we say that God is holy what comes to mind?  Does this effect the way we should approach unto Him?  Let’s briefly look at this.

Psalm 34:3 KJV - 3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.

The word magnify in this verse doesn’t mean what you may think. We often think of magnification as looking at something small in a microscope to make it bigger. The word magnify here is quite different. We want to magnify the Lord to see Him for all that He is. To see Him as big as He is!  We serve a mighty big God!!!

The way people had a reverence for God in Biblical times versus the way people reverence God today is dramatically different.  Today we often fail to reverence the Lord as we should due to who we are.  We are a fallen people.

God is holy. God has many attributes we could look at but arguably His greatest attribute is His holiness.

[Exo 15:11 KJV] 11 Who [is] like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who [is] like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful [in] praises, doing wonders?

We should approach unto God with a reverence and awe of who He is..We are a sinful people and God is perfectly holy in every way.  In today’s time we have lost some of our healthy fear and reverence for God.

How people in the Bible saw the Lord in all His holiness

As a matter of fact, when people in the Bible saw the Lord Jesus Christ in all His holiness notice how they responded.

Moses in Exodus 3 would not so much as look upon the Lord:

Exodus 3:2-3 KJV - 2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush [was] not consumed. 3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest [is] holy ground.

John in Revelation 1 saw Jesus Christ in all His glory and fell to the ground as though he was dead:

Revelation 1:17 KJV - 17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead….

Paul on road to Damascus fell to the ground and was blinded by the presence of God:

Acts 9:3-4 KJV - 3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

Consider today the holiness of God. He is perfectly holy and we fall woefully short. Only through Jesus Christ can we as sinners be right with a holy God. How do you view God?  Have you trusted Jesus Christ?  Do you have a healthy reverence for God?
