‘Like Godzilla went into the beauty salon:’ Tree crushes beloved barber shop

A major cleanup is underway in South Fulton County after a massive tree fell on a beloved salon and barber shop.

The oak tree fell directly on top of the Profile Hair Salon and Barber Shop, which has been in business in the area for decades. Even Braves legend Hank Aaron got his hair cut there.

Workers said they are thankful that the storms hit overnight when the business was closed. But the tree crushed the ceiling and almost everything inside. The shop is a total loss.

“It just totally looked like Godzilla went into the beauty salon,” manager An’cell Davis said.

Angel Howard, the shops owner, said she lost everything.

“My curling iron, my blow drying, my products,” Howard said. “I can’t get to it.”

Howard was planning on styling a wedding party Thursday. But it will be along time before employees can get back to work. About 15 employees worked at the shop and they hope to consolidate them at a second location down the street.

Employees said the shop has been at the plaza for some 60 years, providing valuable services to anyone who needed them.

“It’s a historic spot,” Samuel Farley said. “A lot of people come here to get a haircut.”

In addition to Aaron, Tyler Perry has been known to visit the shop.

Howard said the situation has affected her ability to make money, but she’s trying to look on the bright side.

“I’m devastated, but I am blessed that we were not here,” Howard said.

The storm also knocked down a tree at the church next door and onto a home and an SUV on nearby Macon Drive.
