First look photos have been released for the new Netflix drama One Day, starring This is Going to Hurt actor Ambika Mod.

The adaptation of David Nicholls’ much-loved novel also stars Leo Woodall of The White Lotus, and will be released by the streaming service in February next year.

One Day follows Emma and Dexter, who meet at their university graduation in 1988, then decide to meet up on the same day each year – as their lives develop and change, both for better and for worse.

The novel was previously adapted as a film in 2011, starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess, which remains popular more than a decade later.

But this is the first time the novel has been reimagined for the small screen, in a 15-episode series which sees Mod and Woodall putting their own spin on the lead roles.

A set of newly released photos by Netflix show the obvious chemistry between the pair, getting fans excited for this new take on the novel.

The cast of One Day also includes Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark), Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck), John Macmillan (The Great), Mark Rowley (The Last Kingdom) and Freya Parker (Jurassic World Dominion).

Mod’s breakout role as Shruti in the TV adaptation of This is Going to Hurt, alongside Ben Whishaw, saw her named as one of the 2022 BAFTA Breakthrough creatives.

Last year, Mod told Radio Times that adapting the novel into a TV series is a positive movie for the integrity of the story.

"It’s a series so there’s a lot more time to dedicate to the events of the book," she said.

"I really enjoyed the film, but I think a lot of people felt that – and I would agree – that an hour-and-a-half movie isn’t usually enough to dedicate to this epic novel that spans 20 years."

One Day will be released on Netflix on February 8, 2024.
