Real Madrid had only lost one La Liga match all season heading into Saturday, and it took a stunning strike to hand them another.

José Luis Morales broke the deadlock with a left-footed rocket in the 79th minute as Levante beat Real Madrid 1-0, eight days before the Spanish giants square off against Barcelona in El Clásico.

Mallorca is the only other team to have beaten Real Madrid in the league this season, having done so 1-0 on October 19.

The end product wasn’t there for Real Madrid against Levante. It was for Morales.

Via beIN Sports USA:

On the strength of Lionel Messi’s first-half hat trick in a win over Eibar earlier Saturday, Barcelona leapfrogged Real Madrid atop La Liga.

Perhaps Levante caught Real Madrid looking ahead, with a Champions League round of 16 first leg against Manchester City on Wednesday before the Clásico against Barca in eight days’ time.

So it goes in the Spanish top flight, where you spend over four months not losing and drop to second place immediately after you do.
