Golden Apple Award: Pearl Haskew Elementary School’s Lacie Lincecum

Irvington, Ala. (WKRG) — Our Golden Apple Award team visited Pearl Haskew Elementary School for the first time to award second-grade teacher Lacie Lincecum with a Golden Apple.

Lincecum has only been teaching for about three and a half years–but she’s already gaining fans from parents and fellow teachers.

She said, “I thought teachers were born to be teachers–but then a little bit of career path, a little bit of college–I married into a family of teachers, and I was sort of inspired to be a teacher by some of my college professors–so I thought maybe I’d give it a shot.”

She teaches second-graders now and enjoys how their little minds work after they conquered kindergarten and first grades.

“They get to be a little more independent now, so we can take some of that instruction that they’ve needed, so closely hand over hand things, and I get to watch them do it on their own–especially now after Christmas break. They’ve matured some–they’ve gotten into routines and procedures–like we just finished a spelling test that would have blown their mind back in August–and they crushed it,” said Lincecum.

Lincecum’s students applauded—her husband brought flowers for her special Golden Apple Day.  And her principal says having teachers of her caliber makes her job much easier.

Lynn Coulter said, “My whole entire staff is amazing.  Ms. Lincecum is part of a great team–she cares about her students and always has their best interests at heart.”

Our congratulations to Lacie Lincecum and Pearl Haskew Elementary School for a job well done.
