Golden Apple: Debbie Kittrell

WAYNESBORO, Ga (WJBF)

Debbie Kittrell has been focusing on K-4 for her entire career. It’s her life’s work and she loves it.
“4-year olds have been my age forever,” Kittrell says. ” I teach this age because the children are excited every morning when they walk in. They’re ready to learn something new, and that makes me excited to teach.”
Excited and energetic. There’s no time to slow down in her classroom.
“Lots of movement, up and down. Lots of singing. Rhymes. Games. All kinds of things like that. It’s a busy day. They don’t idle very well. So when they start getting a little distracted, we just stand up and do something different.”

The entire team at Edmund Burke Academy works to foster a sense of belonging in every child.

“We’re all about family and including everyone. It gives them school spirit. And also the more they do, the more they realize they can do.”
Mrs. Kittrell’s connection to EBA goes back a bit. She’s been a part of this place since she was in first grade.
“It’s a lot of fun because now I’m teaching children of children I taught. So, that’s amazing. And I see them grown up, they’re moms and dads. It’s wonderful, yeah.”

You are amazing Debbie Kittrell. Educating generations and improving your community one child at a time.
“This is my second home,” she says. ” These kids feel like my kids as well. It’s just a natural part of my life.”
