The Golden Globes returned to NBC Tuesday night after a one-year hiatus, broadcasting live from The Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The network elected not to broadcast the ceremony in 2022 due to the scandals surrounding the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which previously included zero Black voters. The organization also faced criticism over the lack of diversity in the nominees put forth by the voting body.

While the ceremony did take place in 2022, it was a scaled-down affair with neither television cameras nor a star-studded audience.

Leading the festivities at the 80th Annual Golden Globes was first-time host Jerrod Carmichael, who won an Emmy in 2022 for his confessional standup special “Rothaniel,” in which he came out as gay.

The Hollywood Foreign Press also awarded its fourth annual Carol Burnett award to “Glee” and “American Horror Story” creator Ryan Murphy, and the Cecil B. DeMille award to comedian Eddie Murphy.
