Golden Globes 2021: Best Actress in a Drama Series Goes to Emma Corrin

First, it was Elisabeth Moss for The Handmaid's Tale. Then it was Sandra Oh for Killing Eve (we’ll never forget her adorable parents) , followed by Olivia Colman for The Crown. And now, the Golden Globes has crowned another Best Actress in a Drama Series.

During the 78th annual Golden Globes, Emma Corrin took home the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Drama for her role as Diana, Princess of Wales in The Crown.

Other nominees included Olivia Colman for The Crown (played Queen Elizabeth II), Jodie Comer for Killing Eve (played Villanelle), Laura Linney for Ozark (played Wendy Byrde) and Sarah Paulson for Ratched (played Nurse Mildred Ratched).

This particular honor was first awarded at the 19th Golden Globe Awards on March 5, 1962, under the title Best TV Star-Female, grouping all genres of television series together. The award honored actresses in both comedy and drama genres until 1969, when it was split into categories that honored comedic and dramatic performances separately (thank goodness).

In addition to Moss, Oh and Colman, previous winners include Claire Foy for The Crown, Taraji P. Henson for Empire, Ruth Wilson for The Affair, Robin Wright for House of Cards, Claire Danes for Homeland, Katey Sagal for Sons of Anarchy, Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife, Anna Paquin for True Blood, Glenn Close for Damages, Kyra Sedgwick for The Closer and Geena Davis for Commander in Chief.

The 78th annual Golden Globes were hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. Although the dynamic duo previously served as hosts in 2013, 2014 and 2015, this is the first time they did it from opposite sides of the country.

Congrats, Corrin! Very well deserved.
