Gold's Gym in Corpus Christi set to close its doors

The Gold's Gym on Corpus Christi's Southside will shut its doors in October.

Officials with the gym said the lease will not be renewed and its last day of operations will be Monday, Oct. 24.

Members of the gym will notified within the week via email about their memberships being canceled.

Gold's Gym was originally founded in August 1965 in Venice Beach, California. The Corpus Christi location originally opened in the Windchase Shopping Center in 1986.

In May 2020, Gold's Gym filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A month prior, the company closed about 30 locations.

In August 2020, the business was acquired by European company RSG Group GmbH, which owns 20 other gym brands.
