Goldston library reboots Book Club; Summer Reading Challenge begins

Jun. 2—PITTSBORO — After a two-year hiatus, the Goldston Public Library's Book Club is set to begin meeting again beginning Tuesday, according to a release from Chatham County Government.

It's the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 that club members will meet face-to-face again, according to Juana Gomez-Sorian, manager of the branch that's part of the Chatham County Public Library system.

"It was kind of put on hold," Gomez-Sorian said.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for members and others who are interested to get together, discuss ideas and make a list of books to be read, the release said.

Prior to the pandemic, the club had about five regular participants, Gomez-Sorian said, adding that she's hopeful more people will take an interest.

The meeting is from 11 a.m.-noon and will be in the E.M. Harris Jr. Conference Room at the library.

On June 9, the library will kick-off its Summer Reading Challenge for ages 2 to 18 with an ice cream party, Gomez-Sorian said. The theme for this year's challenge is Oceans of Possibilities.

Participants will pick up a reading log at the event and the goal is to complete 10 hours of reading, Gomez-Sorian said. Those who reach the goal will get a free book and be entered into a drawing for a grand prize.

The ice cream will be provided by the Friends of the Goldston Public Library.
