Golf: Cona, Armstrong win 57th Annual 4-Ball Invitational

LAKELAND — It was a first time and third time for two golfers operating as a dynamic duo at the 57th Annual 4-Ball Invitational at the Cleveland Heights Golf Course over the weekend.

Brian Armstrong won his first, while his partner, Gary Cona, propelled to win his third 4-Ball championship thanks to using an eagle on the par-4 16th hole (A7). The two scored a 131.

This lifted the golfers to a one-stroke victory over James Preston and Nick Strickler, who both shot a 132.

The tournament is the longest running golf event in Polk County. Organizers set the event every spring in an attempt to keep it away from both Easter and the Master’s weekend.
