A golfer playing Timnath's Harmony Club golf course was found dead in an irrigation canal Wednesday evening.

Timnath Police Chief Terry Jones said the person had been playing a solo round of golf. Another golfer in the area saw a cart but no golfer.

The golfer became concerned and reported the incident to police around 2:15 p.m.

Police discovered golf clubs along the No. 14 hole in a ravine near an irrigation canal leading from Timnath Reservoir and winding through the course.

Jones said for an unknown reason, the golfer ended up in the irrigation canal. Larimer County Search and Rescue team members discovered his body about a half-mile downstream of where the clubs were located around 5 p.m.

Jones said the water depth was estimated at 4 feet deep. He said the flow of irrigation water was shut off to help search and rescue members.

Jones said the man is a Timnath resident and is believed to have been about 70 years old. Jones said a medical condition may have contributed to his death. No suspicious circumstances are suspected.

The Larimer County Coroner's Office will release the identification and cause and manner of death.

Also Wednesday evening in Timnath, police responded to a crash between a 10-year-old cyclist and a vehicle that resulted in serious injury to the youth.
