Good Boy Bakery expands, adds Roscoe General Store

COSHOCTON − What started six years ago in a small basement shop continues to grow. First it moved to a larger store and is now taking over an existing business in Roscoe Village with plans for more.

Cathy and Brad Fuller recently expanded their Good Boy Bakery and took over the Roscoe General Store in Roscoe Village. They have added many new products to the general store such as dip mixes, teas, Roscoe General Store branded apple butter and more. Good Boy Bakery, a dog treat and pet supply store, recently held an open house and ribbon cutting for its expansion at 348 to 350 N. Whitewoman St. In addition, owners Brad and Cathy Fuller have also taken over the adjoining Roscoe General Store.

Brad said they also have plans on turning the upstairs into The Loft in Roscoe Village, a consignment store featuring local vendors. He said they've had about 25 inquiries for that venture.

The expansion was announced in January with Good Boy Bakery taking over the room formerly home to Abigail Birch. This was done so they could offer more pet products. They sell clothing, harnesses, bowls and much more for pets. The bakery is known for their Woofles, waffles for dogs.

The general store remains about the same, although some new merchandise has been added such as Roscoe General Store branded apple butter made by Yoder Foods, teas, dipping oils, dip mixes and men's hair and beard care products. They have four employees between the two stores.

"We're always looking at ways to grow and opportunities. We're happy with what we have right now and look forward to what's next," Brad said.

Brad credits the growth to local support they've received from customers and agencies like the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce and Coshocton Port Authority. Brad is also the president of the Roscoe Village Business Association.

"We're very proud of it. This is a major pet store, something you would find in the larger cities," Brad said. "We have people who come in everyday, people who come in weekly, people who come in from Canton and Columbus who drive down specifically to come to Good Boy Bakery. They say they don't have anything like this in their area and they wish we were in their area. We're a destination now."

The couple started out making treats and food for their own dogs. They then decided to gauge response for what they made by setting up at local farmers markets and street fairs. From there, they opened a small shop below their current location. That area still serves as their bakery. They also get treats made to their specification from other makers.

"We started very small, very humble beginnings as they say, and Cathy and I had never been in retail before. We were kind of feeling our way through to begin with," Brad said. "We'd spread out seven bags of treats just to cover the shelf. Now, we're like 'where can we put another shelf.'"

Customers are encouraged to bring their dogs in with them.

The store also has a new in-house cat named Juniper, a rescue from the Coshocton County Animal Shelter. Brad said they have a tip jar at the register with proceeds going to the animal shelter. He said it's usually more than $100 a month.

"It's not from us, not from Good Boy Bakery, but our patrons. They are so generous. People who love dogs love what they do at the animal shelter. They work so hard to give displaced animals a new home or back with their owners," Brad said.
