ANNUAL PEANUT BUTTER CHALLENGE UNDERWAY

The Peanut Butter Challenge is an annual jar collection for local food pantries hosted by UF/IFAS Extension and Florida A&M University Cooperative Extension that launched in the Florida Panhandle counties. Unopened, unexpired peanut butter jars of any size can be donated to the UF/IFAS Extension Polk County office, 1702 S. Holland Parkway, Bartow through Oct. 31. Other Polk County collection sites include: Lakeland Public Library, 100 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland; Winter Haven Library, 325 NW Ave. A, Winter Haven; Polk County Board of County Commissioners, 330 W. Church St., Bartow; Peter Rust Civic Center, 5 S. Allapaha Ave., Davenport. Proceeds will go to Polk State College’s Food Pantry. Coordinated by UF/IFAS Extension faculty, staff and volunteers, the competition among counties for bragging rights was conceived in 2012 as a way to feed hungry families ahead of the holidays in addition to promoting a Florida-grown crop, the peanut, which is produced mainly throughout the northern regions of Florida and contributed $119 million to the state economy in 2019. For more information, contact Andrea Nikolai, Polk UF/IFAS Extension, 863-519-1072, andreanikolai@ufl.edu or visit sfyl.ifas.ufl.edu/peanutbutter.
