'The Good Doctor' Fans Say They Will "Never Forgive the Writers" for What They Did to Lea

From Good Housekeeping

  • The Good Doctor season 3 episode 12 aired on ABC on Monday night.

  • In the new episode, "Mutations," Lea moved out of her apartment with Shaun per Carly's request in episode 11.

  • Fans were frustrated that Lea was the one leaving the apartment instead of Shaun, and they took to Twitter to express that to the writers.

After Dr. Shaun Murphy's girlfriend, Carly, expressed her discomfort with him living with Lea in last week's episode of The Good Doctor, this week's episode kicked off with a scene that showed Lea moving out of their apartment. While Shaun seemed to be happy enough with the change, fans weren't exactly thrilled — and they quickly took to Twitter to express their discontent.

"We didn't get to see [Shaun and Lea's conversation] or the possible emotional impact it might've had on Lea (or Shaun even). Hell they've only been BEST FRIENDS for several years now," one fan tweeted in frustration. "I will never forgive the writers for make [sic] Lea move out," another wrote.

The seeming basis of these fans' annoyance? The fact that Lea was the one leaving their apartment together, not Shaun.

It's a valid point: Not only did Shaun agree to break off his living situation with Lea in order to prove to Carly that he loves her (something fans also weren't happy about), but now it seems he also made her leave the apartment instead of volunteering to leave himself. Some fans even worried that this decision could mean that Paige Spara (who plays Lea) could be leaving the show.

The good news is that there doesn't seem to be any reason to believe that Lea will be gone from The Good Doctor entirely (especially since she's already got acting credits for next week's episode). Plus, for those fans who believe Lea and Shaun belong together eventually, there's still hope that something will change in the remaining six episodes of the season.

For now, though, Shaun and Carly seem to be doing pretty well — so why not just wait and see where the rest of season 3 takes them?
