The Good Doctor is going to lose a series regular character at the end of the current season, it has been revealed (via Deadline).

Brandon Larracuente joined at the start of season 6, the current run, as Dr Daniel Perez. The character has been involved in a storyline about his drug addiction, relapsing and getting put on probation.

Plot teasers for the upcoming season finale reveal that things are going to go from bad to worse for Daniel, as he will get hit by a car.

"Shaun and Lea are heading to the delivery room and everyone from the hospital is also there — except for one very important person," reads the official synopsis. "Meanwhile, a tragic accident involving Drs Perez and Kalu pulls everyone away, including Dr. Murphy."

According to the publication, the show's producers feel like the finale is a natural end for Daniel's character arc, but the door looks like it might be open for Larrecuente to return for a guest appearance in the future.

The actor has found himself a new role, leading Prime Video's On Call, so it looks like he's landed on his feet.

Meanwhile, The Good Doctor has already been renewed for a seventh season.

A spin-off series titled The Good Lawyer has also been greenlit, with Nancy Drew's Kennedy McMann taking the lead as Joni DeGroot, a "brilliant and funny" young lawyer with OCD. The show has also cast Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman in a major role following her time behind bars over the college admissions scandal.

The Good Doctor season 6 finale is set to air on May 1 on ABC in the US. The show airs on Sky Witness and NOW in the UK.
