People with pain in their feet, legs or back might benefit from a visit to The Good Feet Store, which recently opened in Avon.

Kim Sciacca, owner and CEO of Feet First Partners, local franchisee, said the Good Feet Store has been around for 30 years, and has more than 200 locations across the country, as well as in Australia.

The store sells a system of arch supports for “everyone who has feet,” she said.

“Anyone who can benefit from having their body in the proper alignment to help with any type of pain, or to prevent pain from coming down the road,” Sciacca said.

The process begins with a consultation, during which an impression is taken, and any pain or discomfort is discussed.

“We find out what brought you in - if you’re having pain or were diagnosed with a particular foot issue or knee issue. We just get to know who you are, what your lifestyle is, and what things you aren’t able to do because of this issue,” she said.

Three different types of arch supports are part of the system - the strengthener, which puts a foot in the precisely best position; the maintainer, which keeps the foot in that position, but with some wiggle room, for exercising and activities; and the relaxer, which allows the foot to stretch, for wearing around the house.

A wearing schedule is provided, to help guide new users to when each support should be worn, but it’s also up to each person’s individual comfort level.

“If your foot is in the ideal position, then you are properly stacked,” Sciacca said. “If you have any pain or any type of tiredness in your feet, hips, back, ankles, knees, it’s amazing how when you are standing the right way, those issues become non-existent.”

Chris Holmes, COO of Feet First Partners, explained that the store’s design, which sort of resembles a clinic or doctor’s office, but more open, is to make customers feel comfortable sharing semi-personal issues, but also to keep the sense of community.

“It’s not clinical in any way. It’s still open, because we want people to gain excitement form others’ experiences too,” Holmes said. “We want it to be a joint experience for anyone who is in here. But, when you’re in here, we want you to be able to have questions answered and have an experience that’s specific to you.”

After-care is also important. Good Feet will follow-up with customers, to see how the supports are working, and make adjustments, if necessary. The supports all have a lifetime guarantee.

“A year from now, if something doesn’t feel right, come back in and we’ll re-fit you,” Sciacca said.

The Good Feet Store has a good relationship with the medical community.

“We have been educating the medical field on our product for quite some time,” Sciacca said. “Good Feet, the parent company, also does have a medical board, with orthopedic surgeons, podiatrists, and the like.”

Some doctors also recommend a system like The Good Feet Store’s for some patients.

“A lot of times, general practitioners see their patients with some of these chronic issues, and instead of having to wait months to see a specialist, they suggest trying Good Feet first,” Sciacca said.

The Avon store is the only current Good Feet Store location in Connecticut, with locations in Glastonbury and Danbury slated to open in 2023. The Good Feet Store is located at 25 Climax Road, Suite 100, in Avon.
