LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – I have long said that the Coulee Region is loaded with some of the most charitable and giving people on the planet. Name a cause or a purpose and this area will show up in droves to help each other and make things better. However, right below the massive amounts of dollars and impressive donations of items and time is a community that knows how to have fun for a reason.
That passion to lift each other up while simultaneously (and somewhat more importantly) having fun, is no more apparent than with the La Crosse Area Builders Association (LABA) “Cabin Fever Fun-Raiser.” Since 2013, LABA has been bringing us together during the pinnacle of winter to, first and foremost, have some fun. It is called a FUN-Raiser on purpose. This year’s Cabin Fever Fun-Raiser is happening Saturday, February 3rd, at the Holmen American Legion starting at 5:30.
After witnessing more and more school program budget cuts, LABA started the Building Careers Tools for Schools Program to help improve local high schools’ skilled trade programs. Since it started in 2001, they have donated over $134 thousand worth of tools to various high schools and Boys & Girls Club programs in the area. Entire programs have, essentially, been built by the donations made by Tools for Schools. Funds for the program are raised through annual events like the LABA Home Show, golf outing, and, of course, the Cabin Fever Fun-Raiser.
A night of fun and games to support a good cause. And, let me tell ya, you folks have supported the heck out of things. Since 2017, Cabin Fever has raised, roughly, a third of the money used to donate materials by Tools for Schools. I think that proves the Coulee Region knows how to raise some Fun!
This year proves to be just as hot and just as lucrative. Double Take is back to provide the tunes for the evening, so be sure to wear your dancing shoes and stay hydrated. The silent auction has everything from powerful Bluetooth speaker/radios to Blackstone griddles to autographed Packer footballs and a whole lot more. Plus, it’s completely free to attend and all donations are tax-deductible through the La Crosse area Builders Association Charitable Fund administered by the Wisconsin Builders Association.
I have no doubt in my mind that the Coulee Region will once again show out for such a worthy cause as helping to educate the area’s youth. Let’s all do our part to make the 2024 Cabin Fever Fun-Raiser as successful and… more importantly… FUN as it possibly can be.
