State Farm scholarship

The Winter Haven Chamber Foundation partners with State Farm Insurance annually to offer college and vocational training scholarships to public high school seniors in the Winter Haven area. Tayler Wright is this year's recipient of a $1,000 State Farm scholarship. Wright is graduating from Winter Haven High School with a 3.9 GPA and exceptional grades. During her time at Winter Haven High, Wright was a part of the Pride of Winter Haven band, the soccer team and the lacrosse team. With the State Farm scholarship, Wright plans to attend Florida Southern College to pursue criminology, along with her interests in band and athletics.

DAR Ponce de Leon chapter 

The Ponce de Leon chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated their final meeting for the 2021-2022 year in May at Winter Haven Beef 'O' Brady's with a pull-apart cupcake in the shape of the flag. Ann Alexander and Samantha Reed were installed as new members. Regent Chris Page presented members with certificates earned from Florida State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution: 16 chapter rewards and 18 rewards for various individual project participation were earned. Mary Jo Williamson was awarded the Top Individual Winner in the state for Single Contributor Volumes, 163 pages by the Genealogical Records Committee. The playing of “Shenandoah” by Jackie Cunningham on her violin concluded the memorial ceremony for the two members that had passed this year:  Mary Eloise Wilson and Barbara Guess Leemis. The chapter members presented the DAR Good Citizen Award to the following students: Ethan Eshrich, All-Saints Academy; Andrea Villanueva-Chavez,  Lake Region High School; Emily Tomlinson, Winter Haven Christian High School; and Joshua Johnson, Winter Haven High School.

Youth Citizenship Awards were presented to 21 students. The American History Essay Contest Awards were given to: Makaylee Roggen and Matthew Moskal at All Saints Academy, Delilah Garcia Gutierre at Eastside Elementary and Hannah Bustamante and Taylor Warren at Winter Haven Christian School. JROTC Awards were presented to: Cadet Amarilys Diaz, Auburndale High School; Cadet Frances Torres, Haines City High School; Cadet Citlai Lopez-Garcia, Lake Region High School; Cadet Julianna Kmiec, Ridge Community High School; and Cadet Ninoshka Rivera Lugo, Winter Haven High School. The chapter’s 2022-2023 meeting is Sept. 10.
