Katherine Jones scholarship recipient
Katherine Jones, Lakeland Christian School, Lakeland, was one of two music students to receive the Florida Music Education Association’s 2022 June M. Hinckley Music Education Scholarship. Jacob Hyer, Venice High School, Venice was the second winner. This program awards $1,000 scholarships to selected high school seniors who participated in a Florida All-State Music Ensemble and who intend to major in music education at a Florida college or university. The process included submission of an application, an essay, three references and a transcript, which were then reviewed by a committee of FMEA board members. Katherine plans to attend Southeastern University.
SPCA adoption grant
SPCA Florida has been awarded a 2022 Kia Pet Adoption Grant of $2,000 from Petfinder Foundation for reduced adoption fees for SPCA Florida’s Senior for Senior Adoption Program for Dogs. SPCA Florida will offer during the first full week of each month a Senior Pet Adoption Special. Senior dogs, age 7 or older, are 50% off, and senior pets adopted by seniors (65 and over) are 75% off. The 2022 Kia Pet Adoption Grant will help find homes for 19 senior dogs monthly. SPCA Florida’s Adoption Center is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. View senior pets at www.spcaflorida.org.
